Description fine sewing needles
For patchwork we need needles with a very good point and it is not worth saving money when purchasing them. When sewing materials of normal thickness, normal needles are recommended, but for thicker materials it is advisable to use thicker needles, in this way we make our work easier. Like other needles, sewing needles have sizes given by numbers. The thickest are needles with the number 0, also in the category of thick needles there are needles with sizes between 1 and 5.
For patchwork, size 8-10 needles are recommended, but if we also use beads to decorate the works (eg crazy), we will need thin size 12-15 needles. Good quality needles do not corrode, their surface is extremely smooth, which allows easy sliding in the material and we can work easily and precisely with them.
Needles definition
One needle, used for hand sewing, is a long, thin tool with a sharp point at one end and a hole (or eye) to hold the sewing thread. The earliest needles were made of bone or wood; modern needles are made of high-carbon steel wire and plated with nickel or 18K gold for corrosion resistance. High-quality embroidery needles are plated with two-thirds platinum alloy and one-third titanium alloy. Traditionally, needles were kept in needle books or needle boxes that became decorative items. Sewing needles may also be kept in an étui, a small box that contained needles and other items such as scissors, pencils, and tweezers.
